March 20, 2021 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pmFree
In honor of the 125th Anniversary of the Thomas Waterman Wood Gallery in Montpelier, gallery curator Phillip Robertson is offering six special guided tours of the 125th Anniversary exhibits, two each day on Feb. 20, March 20, and April 17. Four galleries of art are part of the show featuring more than 30 Wood paintings of Vermonters and scenic landscapes as well as Wood’s copies of the Great Masters, created so that Vermonters could experience classic European artworks. Highlights include “In the Jelly Jar,” a recently acquired Wood painting, as well as his famous work “Southern Cornfield.” Read The Bridge story about the acquisition of “In the Jelly Jar” here. The exhibit also includes “Social Realism to Abstraction: Paintings of the WPA,” which displays selections of the gallery’s collection of 90 art pieces created for the federal government, including works by Joseph Stella, Irwin Hoffman, and Mabel Dwight. Reservations are required for the guided tours here. The gallery is also open to self-guided tours on Thursdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. with registration required here.
