The Valley Players will present a sensory friendly performance of the family-friendly musical Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka July 9 at 2 pm at the Valley Players Theater, 4254 Main Street (RT. 100), Waitsfield. A sensory friendly performance welcomes individuals with sensory needs, including people on the autism spectrum, families with very young children, and anyone who requires a different atmosphere to experience the joy of the theater in a safe, non-judgmental environment. Accommodations include reduced intensity of lighting effects and sounds, family “pod” seating, an outdoor “take a break” tent, and a reduced ticket price. This performances is sponsored in part by Washington County Mental Health Services and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont.
Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka follows enigmatic candy manufacturer Willy Wonka as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whomever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy. Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats: the fifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket, who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather. The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka’s rules in the factory… or suffer the consequences. Featuring the enchanting songs from the 1971 film starring Gene Wilder and new songs by Leslie Bricusse (Jekyll & Hyde, Doctor Dolittle) and Anthony Newley, Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka is a musical guaranteed to delight everyone’s sweet tooth.
All tickets for this show are $5, thanks to our generous sponsors. To purchase tickets, and for more information, go to valleyplayers.com. Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). Photos by Wayne Fawbush.
