ART, etc. presents their June & July exhibits featuring the work of Rochester artist Linda Schneider and South Royalton artist Joan Hoffmann. Both artists work in oils and this show features landscapes and seasonal views of Vermont and the American West. This exhibit will be on view until July 29.
Recently returned from teaching in Bluff, Utah, Joan Hoffmann paints oils and watercolors en plein air and in her South Royalton, Vermont studio. Her Colors of Vermont exhibit feature her works on location that capture nature’s light conveyed in her impressionistic style that evokes both wildness and a poetic sense of place.
Hoffmann is integrally connected to the landscape by painting, teaching and preserving the scenes that she loves to paint. Her oils often capture majestic landscapes and natural formations throughout the country. As climate changes inexorably impacts the earth, Hoffmann’s images of still-unspoiled locations are all the more poignant.
Linda Schneider paints landscapes in oils of rural scenes in Vermont and cityscapes in Brooklyn, New York. Her goal in painting is to capture the Light on the Land, the title of her exhibit. Schneider reveals the fleeting moments that transform ordinary surroundings into a world of greater intensity. Light in painting expresses her love for the land and for our earth.
Linda enjoys all seasons and all weathers, seeing dazzling sunlight on water in early morning, the thin diffuse light of a snowstorm, deep shadows in late summer, and seeks to convey the emotional essence of these and other effects in color, shape, and line. She works to achieve two transformations: to turn flat canvas into deep space, and to turn heavy paint into insubstantial light and air.
The public is invited to an Opening Reception Friday, June 2, 5-7pm. Meet the artists, enjoy refreshments, music by Jim Green, and celebrate our 1st year Anniversary in Randolph and our 4th year in business.
