Vermont State Police have been seeking a Montpelier man in connection with an alleged stabbing at the Middlesex Park & Ride for over a week. The alleged suspect, Shannon Edwards, 39, was identified to police as being the person who was involved in a fight inside a vehicle on June 28 at roughly 2:40 p.m. between Edwards and another man, according to a police report. Investigation revealed that during the confrontation, the alleged suspect stabbed the other man in the abdomen with a box-cutter-style knife. After the stabbing, Edwards allegedly stole money from the injured man and fled the scene. The victim was treated at Central Vermont Medical Center and released the same day.

Following the incident, police gathered information regarding the identity of the stabbing suspect, and then issued an arrest warrant. Charges against Edwards include assault and robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, larceny from a person, and reckless endangerment. However, investigators have not been able to find Edwards, and are seeking the public’s help in locating him. He is described as a white male, 5-feet, 7-inches tall with short brown hair and hazel eyes. He has a tattoo of a scorpion on his left forearm and a tribal tattoo around his right shoulder and neck, according to police.

Edwards also made news  in July 2020, according to two articles by Alan J. Keays in VTDigger. At that time, Edwards allegedly escaped the Vermont Northeast Regional Correctional Center Work Camp by climbing out a small window, and then using a mattress and blankets to get over the razor wires. He had been serving time for alleged burglary and resisting arrest. He was found a few days later near the prison due to suffering from broken bones thought to have resulted from the escape.

Anyone with information on Edwards’ whereabouts is asked to contact the Vermont State Police’s Berlin Barracks at 802-229-9191. Anonymous tips can be provided online at vsp.vermont.gov/tipsubmit.
