Amphibians on the move! Wood frogs, spotted salamanders, the lesser-known Jefferson-complex salamander, and, soon, peepers and toads. Leeks are up and red-elderberry buds are bursting. Song, fox, and white-throated sparrows are singing. Phoebes are here, elegant grackles and red-winged blackbirds still passing through, and any day woodcocks, swallows, snipes, and various hawks will be churning the air with swoops and dives. It’s almost too much for our winter-chastened senses. But ready or not, here comes SPRING!
