The Montpelier Roxbury Public Schools fiscal year 2025 budget revote will take place on April 30, and absentee ballots are already available for in-person voting at City Hall, said City Clerk John Odum in an email to The Bridge.

Montpelier voters can request mailed absentee ballots “anytime, via the ‘election’ section of the clerk’s website at Montpelier-vt.org,” said Odum.

The ballot will only have the budget question, for the MRPS budget of $30,575,415. This represents closing Roxbury Village School, a tough decision made by the school board to avoid cutting staff and programming following the defeat of its first budget on Town Meeting Day. The estimated tax rate increase if the revised budget passes is 13.8% (at $1.275) for Montpelier, and 3.6% (at $1.352) for Roxbury. Annual tax dollar amounts depend on income bracket and home value.

“Roxbury voters will come to the Roxbury Town Office to vote on April 30. Polls open at 10 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. The ballots are available in Roxbury for absentee voting,” said Roxbury Town Clerk Tammy Legacy, in an email to The Bridge. Absentee ballots may be requested online at mvp.vermont.gov, or by contacting the town clerk at 802-485-7840.

“If this second vote goes down, we will try for a third vote in June, before the end of the fiscal year,” said Libby Bonesteel, district superintendent.

Montpelier City Hall’s hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for absentee ballots and for voting on April 30.
