Plainfield Arts is thrilled to announce the upcoming performance of Gathering Time, a folk-rock/Americana/AAA trio hailing from Long Island, N.Y., at the historic Plainfield Opera House. With a decade-long legacy of touring across the United States and internationally, Gathering Time (Stuart Markus, Christine Sweeney, and Gerry McKeveny) evince deep roots in 1960s folk-rock, with a healthy dash of traditional folk in the mix. Gathering Time will take to the stage at the Plainfield Opera House (18 High Street, Plainfield) on Saturday, Jan. 13, at 4 p.m. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. Suggested donation: $20. Drawing inspiration from genre pioneers such as The Byrds; Peter, Paul & Mary; Joni Mitchell; and Crosby, Stills & Nash, Gathering Time brings a contemporary touch to their music through an acoustic-electric alchemy that is distinctly their own. Their stage chemistry makes clear that they take the music (if not themselves) very seriously, yet their infectious energy wins over even fans who never considered themselves folkies. WFUV’s John Platt has written that they are “among the finest performers in the New York metropolitan area, whatever the size of the venue, from a house concert to an outdoor festival,” with “harmonies that can charm the birds out of the trees, strong original songs, and a savvy repertoire of cover songs, ranging from traditional folk to classic rock. They appeal to audiences of all ages.”Peter Yarrow, of Peter, Paul & Mary fame, adds his endorsement, referring to Gathering Time as “Extraordinary singers who follow in the footsteps of The Weavers and Peter, Paul & Mary.” Come prepared for an evening filled with exquisite three-part harmonies, exceptional musicianship, and thought-provoking lyrics. This concert promises to be an unforgettable experience. For more information, visit plainfieldartsvt.org.
