Photo Story: Wheels for Warmth

Above, a volunteer carts newly purchased tires for a buyer during the 2023 Wheels for Warmth event at the Vermont Granite Museum in Barre, VT, Saturday, Oct. 28. Since 2005, Wheels for Warmth has been recycling tires through this annual sale and using the proceeds to fund heating fuel assistance programs statewide.
The 18th annual Wheels for Warmth had another busy weekend selling and recycling donated tires, with the proceeds slated to go to emergency heating programs at Capstone Community Action, Champlain Valley Offices of Economic Opportunity, and BROC Community Action in Rutland.

While this year’s proceeds have not yet been counted, Capstone reported that in the prior 18 years, the annual event has raised $670,000 for emergency fuel assistance, sold 25,000 safe donated tires, and recycled 50,000 unsafe tires.

“We have also seen over 1,100 volunteers contributing time from over 120 companies or organizations, resulting in over 25,000 volunteer hours,” said a release from Capstone.
