Looking back over this summer’s flood and period of drenching, I realize I know next to nothing about the flood’s impact on the egg-to-grub schedule of beetles, bumblebees, or countless other insects (the queens for bumblebees and ants for next year must be in the ground nest and developing in summer, before nuptial flights in late summer or fall, just before the long winter sleep). Has anyone seen a large, newly hatched queen bumblebee since the flood?
