Montpelier Strong Recovery Fund Awards $1.2 Million to Local Businesses

Montpelier Alive and the Montpelier Foundation today announced the disbursement of the second round of grants raised through the Montpelier Strong Recovery Fund. Over 90 businesses received a total of $1.2 Million to use for their recovery needs.

“It has been so inspiring to see a wave of businesses reopening over the past few weeks,” said Katie Trautz, Executive Director of Montpelier Alive. “This second round of grants will help even more businesses move through the rebuilding process and welcome customers back.”

The Montpelier Strong Recovery Fund was raised directly from the Montpelier community and other supporters. The fund raised over $2 million in less than two months. In its first round of grants, $4,000 checks were distributed to over 120 businesses for their immediate recovery needs. In the second round, awards of up to $20,000 were made to businesses, nonprofits, and property owners, based on the amount of net uncovered damages from the flood, whether damages were solely economic or were also comprised of damage to property or inventory, the number of employees pre-flood, and the impact of the funds on the business’ ability to reopen.

“This second round of grants is yet another testament to the incredible love and support our community has for our local businesses,” said Sarah Jarvis, Chair of the Montpelier Foundation. “This support has allowed us to provide significant assistance to businesses—assistance that will have a real impact on their ability to cover the costs of rebuilding and open their doors again.”

The Montpelier Strong Recovery Fund continues to accept donations. Future grantmaking will be focused on helping businesses increase their resilience to flooding and other disruptions.
