DS Cafe Opens in Northfield

There’s a new place to eat at 15 North Street in Northfield. Located where the former China Star used to be, you will find DS Cafe, which touts itself to be the “Best Indian Restaurant in Northfield.” It is also the only Indian restaurant in Northfield. Serving Nepali-Asian food, according to the website dscafevt.com, the restaurant opened on March 3. “It all started in the beautiful valley of the Himalayas,” and the food is authentic Himalayan food. Menu items include lamb korma, chicken biryani, spicy chicken tikka, and more. They also have “American” items such as chicken nuggets and chicken salad. And an unusual listing of various gyros is on the list to boot, such as a salmon gyro, a fried fish gyro, and a steak tip gyro.

Guitar Sam Closing

You know if you drive through downtown Montpelier that Guitar Sam is closing its doors after 42 years in business. A retirement sale is currently underway, and no more repairs are being offered. The store opened as “Play it Again Sam” in 1981 by Kevin Crossett, according to guitarsam.com. They moved across Main Street to a larger spot a few years later. The store then moved around a few times, but has been in its present location since 2009. In addition to providing instruments, sheet music, and guitar strings, the company supported many community fundraisers over the years.

Route 2 Paving Planned in Montpelier

The state of Vermont is poised to send in final plans for repaving a five-mile stretch of Route 2 this year. Work is expected to run from the Montpelier town line with Middlesex near Dairy Creme and run to the town line with Berlin near Preston’s Kia past the roundabout. The route will follow Route 2 to State Street, then turn right to follow Bailey Ave across the bridge. It will then follow Memorial Drive to the Route 2/302 roundabout. A full schedule is imminently forthcoming. Road signs indicating such work will go up sooner.
