It’s June! Thoughts turn to summer outdoors, hiking, gardening, picnics, boating, and lolling. Whatever you do, be prepared to share the space with that lowest of creatures, victim of bad press since biblical times but valued today for its services to human health and the environment — the snake! We have 11 species in Vermont, many of them rare or uncommon. But lucky is the person who has a garter or common water snake on the property. Fewer rodents equals fewer ticks. Beautiful creatures! And dedicated to being quiet and unobtrusive — a perfect neighbor!
