The last flocks of robins, sparrows, and others are gradually being squeezed out of Canada; that will likely continue if it stays mild. Now we enter the darkest three months, and gold attracts. Still time to catch the brassy poplars, or the tamaracks at Chickering Bog and Sodom Pond Road. I gravitate to the walk behind the State House, up the switchbacks to the tower at Hubbard Park. One of few walks close to home that faces south. Catch the sun there as it filters through the trees on a clear day, a glorious walk from mid-day until sundown.
