MONTPELIER — Montpelier Alive is inviting the local community, non-profits, schools, businesses, community groups, churches and individuals to enter the July 3rd Parade Competition. Union Mutual, a long-time sponsor of the July 3rd Celebration, has generously committed to be the exclusive underwriter of the new July 3rd Parade Competition in addition to being a Main Stage sponsor. The Union Mutual July 3rd Parade Competition will feature two awards: Best Performance Award and Best “Green” Float/Entry Award. Each grand-prize winner will receive $1,000 in cash, post-event press, a trophy and most importantly, bragging rights!

Competitors are challenged to create patriotic floats, costumes, decorations and banners showcasing Green Initiatives and/or Artistic Talent. Montpelier Alive is looking for entries that use reclaimed, re-purposed, discarded items, or items that will be recyclable after the parade and/or move through the parade using an electric vehicle, animals or people power (pulling, cycling). As well, show off your artistic and performance talents through music, dancing, puppeteers, clowns, gymnasts — whatever your talent, Montpelier wants to see it!

Winners will be chosen by judge and spectator voting. To learn more about the competition and voting criteria, visit http://www.montpelieralive.org/156/Independence-Day—July-3rd
